A new thing on tuesdays, the song of the week, this may be a song I have been listening to frequently or a new to me song, or maybe just a song that I don't have a place for in any other of my posts.
This week in the spotlight Kansas, I don't know if there are any Supernatural fans out there reading my blog, but you might know this song as one of the title tracks of the Supernatural episodes. This song is very fitting for the series and has become very popular because of the series. You can even find an entire playlist of the series on Spotify as this is not the only good song you will find in this tv series, it has a lot of good rock anthems for you to explore.
Kansas is the name of the day, personally this was not part of my musical upbringing, it was not something my parents listened to. The song Carry On Wayward Son was released in November 1976, and was a personal ong for the writer and guitarist of the band Kerry Livgren. It is about the spiritual exploration of the guitarist, the search for answers. And for some unexplained reason it sums up the entirety of the Supernatural series. It fits like a glove.
What I love about this son is the intro, it is small and it was sung in harmany, it has something fragile, while after the intro it turn into a proper (seventies) rock song, in all its glory. The song is so divers, in its rhythm, but also very dramatic in its slower parts. Especially the piano, is very dramatic and ads to the overal atmosphere of the song. I would say, enjoy this week pick as song of the week, and if you haven't seen any supernatural episode I would suggest the blues episode, it is teriffic, season 2. epidode 8.
