Each Monday when the regular work week has started again you may look back at your fantastic weekend, while you are hungover behind a desk job. A weekend full of music, while you might look back I am going to look forward to the coming week. Every week there are amazing gigs to watch, I will try to bring you some interesting ones.
The festival season has started easter weekend, as every year in the Netherlands, Paaspop is the opening festival. I did not visit this year but the headliners were great, such as the Eagles of Death Metal, Miles Kane, Blue Pills, Franz Ferdinand, Blood Red Shoes, Bazart, and Floor Jansen.
For the lucky ones who went, what was your favorite act?
Let us look ahead at this coming week, I have found some hidden gems for you.
18-04-2022: Clannad - Muziekgebouw Eindhoven
There was a time in my life when I listened to music to get to sleep, every night I picked a CD so I could get to sleep, one of those CDs I frequently listened to was Macalla. Without music, I could not sleep. Another favorite was In A Lifetime, the same name as this last tour of Clannad. The music of this band brings you back to Ireland, back to the time when the Kelts ruled the land. This show has been sold out for a while and this is well deserved, as this band you want to have seen live, once in a lifetime. For everyone going to the concert, I am wishing you all a lovely evening, enjoy the last time you will be able to see them in the Netherlands. Do you want to know more about this tour and dates, please check the website of Clannad.
20-04-2022: Miles Kane - Oosterpoort, Groningen
Seeing this artist's name on any agenda just makes me smile. I love good indie beats, a good voice, and incredible guitars. I love the song "Don't Forget How You Are". It is so catchy. Many people probably already know Miles Kane's voice, from his work with the Last Shadow Puppets, of which he was the frontman, and played together with Alex Turner from the Arctic Monkeys. For indie rock fans, this is a must-see, his solo is appealing. His new album Change The Show, was released in January. Surprisingly enough he left behind the indie rock sound and went for a bluesy soulful sound. A surprising turn of events but it still makes for an interesting album. This show is not yet sold out so if you want to go see him you can get tickets for via SPOT Groningen. Or if the north is too far away, he is playing today 18-04-2022 in the Melkweg.
21-04-2022: Dool - De Helling, Utrecht
If I had not decided that I was going to see Franz Ferdinand live, then I would have gone to see Dool live at Burgerweeshuis in Deventer. This is one of those bands my boyfriend loves so much and has passed on to me. He has worked for this band before, and he loves the genre very much. Dool has been on tour for a while, at the 21st they are playing at De Helling in Utrecht, and on the 28th at Vera in Groningen. After which they will continue throughout Europe, for the full tour schedule check their website Dool. Music-wise, I find it hard to describe this band, think of lots of layers, and lots of guitars. I think you need to experience this one for yourself and see what it brings you.
21 t/m 24 April 2022: Roadburn Festival
Roadburn Festival is organized by the venue 013, it's a showcase festival for everything heavy. This is the festival to check to find new and upcoming artists in the genre and to find the underdogs you might have never heard from before. Personally, I know 0% of the over 60 bands playing the festival. A good way to find yourself some hidden pearls. This festival brings bands to the table that you will never hear on the radio, I like the mission of this festival, you can read it below:
"At the core of Roadburn is a desire to push the boundaries of art; to facilitate challenging performances, to encourage collaboration and to create true once-in-a-lifetime experiences for everybody at the festival – be they participating from the audience or on the stage."
Which act to check at Roadburn? In all honesty, I am not sure, there are so many, so many names I have never heard of, it is really exciting! So many choices, and so many new names I have never heard of before, I have been listening through the line up so I can give you some suggestions. So far I like Alcest, Bruit, Dans Dans, Bad Breeding, and Ulver. I think the way to go with a festival like this is, just to go in blind, go on an adventure. Tickets are available through the Roadburn website.
Well, that is it for this week, until the next one! Which concerts are you going to visit this week?
